Job Title: Engineering Department Manager

 

Engineering Department Manager leads a team of 4 – 6 Engineers using CAD and commercial A/V system design skills to create build-set and as-built drawings for use on the job site and for submission to our clients. Familiarity with the Construction Industry, and Audio-Video installations in particular, preferred. As a working manager, this individual has ultimate responsibility for the smooth production of work from the Engineering Department.

Major Responsibilities:

Manager of Department: Engineering Department Manager (EDM) will supervise the work of the other engineers, as well as his/her own. The incumbent will be in charge of all department personnel decisions, making of assignments, setting and enforcement of time budgets with each engineer/CAD drawing.

Troubleshooting/Coordination: An important component of this role is to be the individual primarily responsible for troubleshooting on any equipment or design issues. In this role, the EDM will work with the management staff to problem solve and make drawing changes as necessary and will participate in weekly staff meetings to help coordinate project details and the timing of workflow.

Individual Contributor: In addition to management responsibilities, EDM will have his/her own production responsibilities.

Job Requirements:

Interpersonal Skills: Strong leader with a positive attitude; a self-starter who is well-organized, with the ability to multi-task and communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
Degrees/Certificates: Engineering degree or engineering technician degree preferred.
Job Experience: The ideal candidate will have management experience, as well as extensive knowledge of AutoCAD including 2-D drafting, proper layer management, configuring sheet layouts and plotting. Knowledge of building materials and proper attachment methods as related to hanging speakers, projectors and projection screens in buildings also beneficial. Experience in the construction business, with knowledge of building materials and proper attachment methods as related to hanging speakers, projectors and projection screens in buildings, is an asset.

Working Conditions:

Primarily a desk job. Must be able to lift 20lbs. Office setting, with some visits to work sites at which multiple trades are working.
