The Problem
CSU Chico offered a public bid to demolish a 48-year-old building on campus and replace with the new construction of a 90,000 square foot Arts and Humanities Building to accommodate the College of Humanities and Fine Arts. The building includes labs, lecture halls, and performing arts classes and performances while complying with the tight schedule, reporting and financial constraints of publicly funded projects.
PCD’s Approach
PCD provided extensive audio visual installations for the 196-seat Recital hall, Recording Studio, Recording Classroom, and Dance Rehearsal Space.

- Recording Studio
The technologically advanced Recording Studio includes a state-of-the-art SSL Duality SE-8 mixing console, dual Samsung 27” monitors, Augspurger GA-215VS-A3 three-way monitor speakers, Focustite RedNet4 eight-channel remote recording, iZ Technologies Radar 6 Frame outboard recording, RME M-32 AD computer-based recording digital 32-channel I/O, Apple New iMac and MacPro computers, and Crestron DM-MD8X8 matrix switching and Crestron CP3 control systems.
- Recital Hall
The Recital Hall installations include portable Middle Atlantic racks, Oppo BDP-103 BluRay player, Soundcraft Si Expression 1 digital mixer, Biamp AudiaFLEX configurable audio DSP, Biamp Nexia CS systems, RDL STD-600 Audio Combiner, Shure ULXD24D/SM58=-G50, Labgruppen E 12:2 and E8:2 amplifiers, Audio Technica AT8035 microphones, Listen Technologies assisted listening systems and a Da-Lite 99287L Cosmo tensioned screen.
- Recording Classroom
The recording classroom includes a teacher’s station with a Middle Atlantic RK4 desktop rack, Benchmark DAC2 HGR converter, GoldPoint Leve Control SA2X-I stereo audio switch, and Oppo BDO-103 streaming BluRay player. The classroom also includes Crestron touch screen control system, Cisco SG200-28P managed switch, Omnimount 60.0WB wall mounted speakers, and Samsung 55” LCD flatscreen TV. - Dance Rehearsal Room
The dance rehearsal space includes installation Middle Atlantic racks, JBL by Harman AC2212/95 two-way speakers, QSC CX902 power amplifier, Shure QLXD14/SM35 wireless microphones, Tascam CD-A750 CD player and Whirlwind Mix 6 six-mix personal mixing system.
The Result
PCD received accolades from Otto Construction for performing high-level work, satisfying both the contractor and client.
